Why Is There a Gap Between My Patio Pet Door and Sliding Door?

Modified on Tue, 26 May at 5:00 PM

Short Answer

Some small gaps are normal with adjustable Patio Pet Doors. Because the product is designed to fit a wide range of sliding door types, the fit can vary slightly between homes and door frames.

Weather sealing foam is included in the box to help improve the seal and reduce drafts.

Why Gaps Can Happen

Patio Pet Doors are adjustable products designed to suit many different sliding door styles and track sizes.

Because every home is different, you may notice:

  • small gaps

  • uneven sealing

  • slight movement between the pet door and sliding door

This is more noticeable on:

  • older sliding doors

  • uneven tracks

  • wider door clearances

Improving the Seal

Your Patio Pet Door includes weather sealing foam to help improve the fit between:

  • the pet door
  • and your sliding door/frame

Small rubber foam strips are also included to help pack wider sliding door tracks and reduce movement or wobble within the track.

Some customers may also choose to use additional weather sealing from a local hardware store for a more customised fit.

Important

Patio Pet Doors are universal-fit products and are not custom-made for individual door frames.

A small gap does not usually affect normal operation of the product.
