Pet Doors - General - Can I Install Into Single Or Double-Glazed Glass?

Modified on Wed, 18 Jun at 2:04 PM

Yes, you can install our Pet Doors (excluding the Cat Flap) into single and double-glazed glass, but a qualified glazier must carry out the installation.

Note: If installing into a sliding door, please check that you will still have enough clearance to operate the door normally.

Cutting into Double-Glazed Glass:

Double-glazed units consist of two panes of glass separated by a sealed air gap, designed for insulation and energy efficiency. Unlike single-pane glass, cutting into double glazing is not a straightforward task. It generally requires a specialist glazier, and in many cases, the unit will need to be entirely replaced with one that has been custom-cut to accommodate the pet door. We recommend checking this with your glazier, as cutting into existing double glazing is not always feasible or advisable.

Energy Efficiency:
Altering a double-glazed panel can affect its insulation. If you're replacing a panel or installing a pet door tunnel, ensure it's fitted and appropriately sealed to help retain thermal efficiency and prevent drafts or condensation.

If you have any questions about installation, we recommend discussing the project directly with your chosen glazier before proceeding.
