Are Patio Pet Doors Lockable?

Modified on Thu, 22 Jan at 10:57 AM

Hakuna Pets offers two different Patio Pet Door designs, and whether the door is lockable depends on which model you have

Mesh Patio (Sliding) Pet Door

The Mesh Patio Pet Door is not a lockable unit.

It is designed as a temporary, pressure-fit solution, making it ideal for rentals and situations where permanent fixing isn’t possible.

  • It does not integrate with your sliding door’s locking mechanism

  • To fully secure your home, remove the mesh pet door from the track and close your sliding door normally

  • Optional Clear Weather Resistant Panels can be added for protection from wind and rain, but these do not provide security or locking

Glass Patio Pet Door

The Glass Patio Pet Door is lockable and offers both temporary and semi-permanent installation options.

Temporary Locking Option

  • Use a Sliding Door Bar Lock (sold separately) to secure the sliding door

Semi-Permanent Locking Options

Depending on your existing sliding door lock type:

  • Internal Lock:
Reinstall your sliding door’s internal hook directly onto the pet door frame, then secure the frame using the Frame Bracket Kit, which is screwed into the sliding door track.

  • External Lock:
Use the supplied Lock Bracket Pack to relocate your external catch onto the pet door frame.
The pet door frame must be anchored into the sliding door track for this option to work correctly.

Summary
Mesh Patio Pet Door: Not lockable, temporary use only
Glass Patio Pet Door: Lockable, with multiple secure installation options
