Some of our Hakuna Pets pet doors can be installed into a wall, but it depends on the model you’ve purchased. Here's a quick breakdown to help you figure out what's possible:
✅ Deluxe Aluminium Pet Door
Yes — this model is a great option for wall installation.
- The Deluxe Aluminium Pet Door comes with an adjustable tunnel suitable for installation areas up to 70mm / 2.76" thick.
- For areas up to 140mm / 5.5" thick, a Deluxe Aluminium Extra Wide Tunnel Kit is available for purchase on our website.
- For areas thicker than 140mm / 5.5", a custom solution may be necessary. A sturdy sheet material (1-2mm thick) can be used as an alternative, but it must fit properly into the pet door frame. Longer screws will be required for this customisation.
⚠️ Super Tough Pet Door
The Super Tough Pet Door comes with a tunnel suitable for walls up to 55mm (2.17 inches) thick. Unlike the Deluxe model, it doesn't include extra-wide tunnel partitions, but wall installation is still possible.
To extend the tunnel depth, you can tape additional tunnel pieces together and will need to source longer screws or additional hardware to secure the pet door in place.
Important:
A maximum of two tunnel extensions is recommended.
If your wall is thicker than what two extensions can cover, you may need a custom solution to fully seal the interior of the wall.
Longer screws will be required when using multiple extensions.
This is more of a DIY-friendly install, so it’s best suited for confident installers or those comfortable sourcing additional materials.
❗ Cat Flap Pet Door
Wall installation is only suitable for depths up to 50mm. Anything thicker than that won’t allow the tunnel to fit properly.
❗ Essential Pet Door
Like the Cat Flap, the Essential Pet Door can be installed into walls, but only within certain thickness limits.
Small & Medium sizes: Adjustable tunnel suits wall thicknesses between 0–70mm
Large size: Tunnel suits wall thicknesses up to 55mm
❌ Ultra Clear Pet Door
Not suitable for wall installation. This model is designed for glass or screen door panels up to 16mm thick only.
Things to keep in mind
1. Internal Walls
- Structural Supports:
Ensure there’s enough space between the studs to fit the pet door. If the studs are too close together, you may need to adjust the location of the door. Avoid cutting studs in load-bearing walls. If you’re unsure whether the wall is load-bearing, consult a tradesperson. - Plumbing & Electrical Wiring:
Verify that no plumbing or electrical wiring runs through the wall in the installation area.
2. External Walls
- Wall Material:
Depending on your wall material (brick, masonry block, etc.), you may need special tools to cut the hole for the pet door. - Plumbing & Electrical Wiring:
Ensure there are no services running through the wall in the area you're installing the pet door.
If you’re uncertain whether the area is suitable for installation, we recommend consulting a tradesperson first.
