Pet Doors - General - Are Flaps Interchangeable Between Soft Rubber and Hard Plastic?

Modified on Mon, 9 Jun at 1:38 PM

We often get asked whether you can switch flap materials within a pet door range — for example, replacing a soft rubber (flexible PVC) flap with a hard plastic version, or vice versa.

The Short Answer: No, Flap Types Are Not Interchangeable

Each Hakuna Pets pet door is specifically designed to work with one type of flap material — either soft rubber (flexible) or hard plastic (rigid).

We do not offer alternative flap material options for each model.

Why Not?

  • Frame design: The frame and hinge mechanisms are molded to suit a specific flap type.

  • Functionality: Changing the flap type may affect the door's swing, seal, or locking function.
