Glass Patio - Installation - How to Remove the Top Panel from the Pet Door or Extension

Modified on Wed, 4 Jun at 2:30 PM

Removing the top panel from your Glass Patio Pet Door or its extension is a simple process that can help reduce the overall height of the unit by 28mm. This can be useful in cases where your sliding door track clearance is limited.

What You’ll Need:

  • Screwdriver

  • Rubber Mallet (preferred)

  • OR Standard Hammer + Sacrificial Material (e.g., thick cardboard or small piece of timber)

Step 1: Remove the Screws

Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the top panel in place. These are located at the top corners of the pet door or extension unit.

TIP: Hold the panel securely as you remove the screws to prevent it from shifting unexpectedly.

Step 2: Dislodge the Top Panel

Gently tap the panel sideways using a rubber mallet to loosen it from the slot.

TIP: Don't have a mallet?
Use a standard hammer, but ensure you place a sacrificial material such as thick cardboard or a small timber block between the hammer and the panel to avoid damage.

The panel may be tightly fitted due to manufacturing tolerances - this is normal.

What Happens After Removal?

  • Removing the top panel reduces the overall height of the pet door or extension by 28mm.

  • This is ideal for installations with height restrictions.

Note: The extension cannot be used if the top panel is removed from the pet door. Ensure you only remove the top panel from either the door or the extension, not both.
