Pet Doors - General - How Do I Measure My Pet For A Pet Door?

To choose the right pet door size, you'll need a tape measure and your pet (preferably not napping). 

1. Measure Width

Measure the widest part of your pet, usually across the chest or hips.
+ Add 50mm / 2 inches for clearance.

2. Measure Height

Measure from the bottom of your pet’s chest or belly to the top of their shoulders (whichever is tallest).
+ Add 50mm / 2 inches to ensure they have enough room to walk through comfortably.

Note: For pet doors with a fixed flap height (like Patio Pet Doors), also measure your pet’s step-over height – the distance from the floor to the bottom of their chest or belly – to see if a riser or extension is needed.

3. Choose Your Pet Door

Use your measurements to select the pet door that gives your furry friend enough wiggle room.

Tip: When in doubt, size up - nobody likes squeezing through tight spaces (pets included).
