How Do I Stop My Dog From Going Under the Paw Proof Retractable Gate?

Modified on Mon, 18 Aug at 2:03 PM

The Paw Proof Retractable Gate is designed for small to medium-sized pets (4.5kg–18kg / 10–40lbs). If your dog is slipping underneath, here are a few things to check:

Ensure your pets' size is within the gates limits: Why is there a minimum pet size/weight for Retractable Gates?

1. Pet Size

Make sure your pet falls within the gate’s recommended weight range. Smaller or lighter pets may be able to squeeze under the mesh.

2. Installation Height

The gate should be installed as close to the ground as possible.
There should be no more than a 50mm / 2" gap between the bottom of the gate and the floor.

3. Installation Location

Is the gate installed at the top or bottom of stairs, or near a step?

Follow the installation guide carefully — installing too close to a drop or step can create a larger gap beneath the gate due to the flexible mesh.

4. Pet Behaviour

Some pets just love a challenge! If your dog is especially persistent about escaping, a retractable gate might not be the best fit long-term.

TIP: Consider a sturdier option like our [Extra Wide Easy Fit Pet Gate], which uses metal bars and is more resistant to pressure from determined pups.
