Pet Doors - General - Pet Door Cleaning Guide

Keeping your pet door clean helps it function smoothly and last longer. Here's how to do it safely and effectively.

Materials Needed:

  • Warm soapy water (a few drops of mild dish soap)

  • Soft cloth or sponge

  • Microfibre cloth (for drying)

  • Soft brush (e.g., toothbrush) for corners and crevices

  • Vacuum with fine nozzle or brush head

Step-by-Step Cleaning Process:

1. Remove Loose Debris
Brush off any dirt, dust, or pet hair from the flap and frame using a dry cloth or soft brush. A vacuum is ideal for removing debris from inside the tunnel.

2. Prepare Your Cleaning Solution
Mix warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap in a bucket or bowl.

3. Clean the Frame
Dip a soft cloth or sponge into the soapy water and wipe down the frame, focusing on edges, corners, and crevices. Use a soft brush (like a toothbrush) to reach any tight spots.

4. Clean the Flap
Gently wipe the flap to remove smudges, paw prints, or dirt. Avoid abrasive sponges or harsh chemicals that may scratch or cloud the surface.

Note: If the flap is particularly dirty, it may be easier to remove it and clean it separately.

Search: “how to replace flap” for step-by-step removal instructions for your model.

5. Dry Thoroughly
Use a clean microfibre cloth to dry all components, preventing water spots or streaking.

Important: If your pet door is installed in a wooden door, avoid saturating it with water or hosing it down. Excess moisture can seep into the wood and cause damage over time.
