Super Tough - Installation - Can I Install It Into My Wall?

Modified on Mon, 28 Apr at 2:56 PM

Yes, the Super Tough Pet Door can be installed into walls, but there are a few essential considerations before proceeding:

1. Internal Walls

Structural Supports:

  • Check that there is enough space between the wall studs to fit the pet door.

  • If the studs are too close together, you may need to adjust the location.

  • Avoid cutting through any load-bearing studs. If you are unsure whether the wall is load-bearing, it is best to consult a qualified tradesperson.

Plumbing and Electrical Wiring:

  • Verify that there are no plumbing pipes or electrical wires where you plan to install the door.

Note: If you are unsure whether the area is suitable for installation, we recommend consulting a professional before starting.

2. External Walls

Wall Material:

  • Installation is possible through materials like brick, masonry block, or rendered surfaces.

  • Special tools may be required to cut through these materials.

Plumbing and Electrical Wiring:

  • Ensure there are no services running through the chosen installation area.

Note:
Installing into an external wall will require permanent modifications to your home's exterior.

3. Installation Area Thickness

  • The Super Tough Pet Door comes with a tunnel suitable for walls up to 55 mm (2.17 inches) thick.

  • For walls thicker than 55 mm, additional tunnel inserts can be purchased and taped together to extend the tunnel width.

Important:

  • A maximum of two tunnel extensions is recommended.

  • If the thickness of your wall requires more than two tunnels, you may need a custom solution to fully seal the interior of the wall.

  • Longer screws will also be necessary for installations that use multiple tunnel extensions.
