Yes, the Deluxe Aluminium Pet Door can be installed into walls, but there are a few important considerations before proceeding:
1. Internal Walls
- Structural Supports:
Ensure there’s enough space between the studs to fit the pet door. If the studs are too close together, you may need to adjust the location of the door. Avoid cutting studs in load-bearing walls. If you’re unsure whether the wall is load-bearing, consult a tradesperson. - Plumbing & Electrical Wiring:
Verify that no plumbing or electrical wiring runs through the wall in the installation area.
If you’re uncertain whether the area is suitable for installation, we recommend consulting a tradesperson first.
2. External Walls
- Wall Material:
Depending on your wall material (brick, masonry block, etc.), you may need special tools to cut the hole for the pet door. - Plumbing & Electrical Wiring:
Ensure there are no services running through the wall in the area you're installing the pet door.
Installing into an external wall will require a permanent modification to your home’s exterior.
3. Installation Area Thickness
- The Deluxe Aluminium Pet Door comes with an adjustable tunnel suitable for installation areas up to 70mm / 2.76" thick.
- For areas up to 140mm / 5.5" thick, a Deluxe Aluminium Extra Wide Tunnel Kit is available for purchase on our website.
- For areas thicker than 140mm / 5.5", a custom solution may be necessary. A sturdy sheet material (1-2mm thick) can be used as an alternative, but it must fit properly into the pet door frame. Longer screws will be required for this customisation.
